The Islands

I’m from the Caribbean’s most densely populated and least-known island, San Andres Colombia: due east from Nicaragua, southwest of Jamaica.

The archipelago spans twenty square miles known as the “Sea of Seven Colors.” My grandparents grew up on nearby Providencia and Santa Catalina islands, home to the world’s third-largest barrier reef – surpassed only by Australia and Belize.

Our islands’ history intertwines with Africa and Europe so our people are multicultural, multiracial, and multilingual. Most locals speak English, Creole and Spanish. I’m Raizal, recognized as a native ethnic group with generations of lineage in the region. With that honor comes a commitment to investing in the region’s people, islands, and waters.
